Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form

Course description

An AS/A2 qualification which gives the opportunity to build on your existing Drama skills through the practical exploration of play texts, extending your knowledge and understanding of a range of theatre practitioners and the experience of your own and others’ live performances.

Why study Drama and Theatre Studies?
Drama and Theatre Studies is widely recognised as a good A Level for those wishing to study for Arts, Social Sciences or Education degrees at university. It is also a good choice for those wishing to pursue a career in Leisure or Community work.

Course content

AS Modules

Unit 1 – Exploration of Drama and Theatre Exploring two plays through practical workshops and written coursework.

Unit 2 – Text in Performance
Section A - Performance of a Monologue or Duologue.
Section B - Performance in a Play.

A2 Modules

Unit 3 - Devising
Groups devise and perform an original piece of drama.

Unit 4 – Text in Context II
Study of two plays from a performance perspective.

Entry requirements

Good grades in GCSE English and Drama are desirable and a lively interest in theatre is essential.

Future opportunities

A wide range of careers and good preparation for Higher Education to study English Literature, History, Law, Business Studies, Linguistics and Education.
