Course description

Why should I study ICT?

Information Technology (IT) is one of our most popular subject areas. This qualification gives students an excellent knowledge of a range of units such as installing hardware, creating a website, identifying an IT fault, computer animation and e-commerce. It is an ideal foundation for students entering the workplace, providing them with a theoretical background reinforced with practical skills that transfer into the modern workplace.

What skills can I gain from studying ICT?

Students will gain a range of skills including communication, working practices, new technologies, maintaining computer systems, IT support and project planning. Students will also undertake some more specialist units including; developing computer games, website production, computer animation, media authoring and many more.

Entry requirements

National data suggests that successful students will have 4 GCSE A*-C plus a pass in their Level Two ICT qualification.

Future opportunities

Many students undertaking the ICT qualification go on to further study at University. Others may go into direct employment or Apprenticeships as ICT Technicians, Mobile Communications Technician, Web Designer, ICT Technical Support, ICT Sales Specialist, Hardware Engineer or Software Developer. The course is also useful when combined with other Business, Humanities or Arts based subjects to show up to date knowledge of ICT.
