Food Technology A Level at The Marches School and Technology College

Course description

The aims of the course are to encourage you to:
Develop your knowledge, understanding, skills and application for designing
food products.
Develop your ability to produce food products that are fit for purpose, satisfy wants
or needs of specific target groups, and enhance our day-to-day lives.
Demonstrate your design and technology capability.
Develop skills in planning, research, analysis, product development, project planning
and evaluation skills.
Recognise and overcome challenges and constraints when working towards the
production of high-quality products.
Develop a critical understanding of the influences of the processes and products of
design and technological activities from a contemporary and historical perspective.
Draw on a range of skills and knowledge from other subject areas.
Draw on and apply knowledge, understanding and skills of production processes
to a range of design and technology activities.
Develop an understanding of contemporary design and technology practices.
Use digital technologies and information handling skills to enhance your design
and technological capability.

Entry requirements

We ask that students applying to the
Sixth Form have a minimum of 5 GCSEs
A*– C Grade and aim for a B Grade in
their chosen subject of study (predicted
It is perfectly acceptable to apply to study
a subject that you did not choose at GCSE.
You will be invited to attend a short,
informal interview with the Head of Sixth
Form to discuss your application and talk
through your options. All places offered will
be conditional until you have received your
GCSE results in August and enrolment will
take place on GCSE Results Day.
There will be various ‘Road to Sixth
Form’ events and activities taking place
throughout the year, to ensure a smooth
transition into post-16 study and to
provide you with all the information you
require to make fully informed decisions.
