Art A-Level at Capital City Academy

Course description

This is a broad course exploring practical and critical/contextual work through a range of 2D and/or 3D processes and new media and technologies. It is an unendorsed course where candidates can work in any art, craft and design materials and processes. Students produce practical and contextual work associated with two or more of the disciplines.

Course content

This provides students with a wide range of creative, exciting and stimulating opportunities to explore their interests in art and design in ways that are personally relevant. Students studying Art and Design will develop their creativity, imagination, practical and intellectual skills; learning to respond visually to the world around them. The course equips students with the practical tools to put their visual ideas into practice. The skills developed in Art and Design is of a practical use in many careers whilst theyare a source of pleasure in their own right.

Entry requirements

Grade B in Art and Design GCSE and a grade C in GCSE English. Students entering the Level 3 Academic Pathway must have an APS of 42 or above

Assessment

60% Component 1 (Internally Set Coursework unit) (Sketchbooks and outcomes)

40% Component 2 (Externally Set Exam unit) (Sketchbooks and outcomes)
