Course content

Performing Music. Perform as either a soloist or as part of an ensemble, in any style, for between 5 and 6 minutes
Composing. Develop composition skills and create a three-minute piece in response to a given brief
Developing Music. Learn how to identify important musical features and their social and historical context. alongside the study of harmony
Extended Performance. Perform for 12-15 minutes
A three-minute composition is produced to a given brief and students’ knowledge of harmony is tested in a technical study
Further Musical Understanding. This unit focuses on listening to music, familiar and unfamiliar, and understanding how it works. There are three sections: aural analysis, music in context, and continuity and change in instrumental music

Entry requirements

GCSE Music grade B or above. If not previously studied, some evidence of practical ability in this subject.
