Photography A Level at Greenford High School
The AS/A2 Photography course is divided into 4 units over 2 years. We aim to give students a wide range of experiences and opportunities, and are keen to encourage the development of strong personal qualities in each student's artwork and photography genre. We find pupils who have achieved a B and above are better equipped to cope with the demands of the subject.
Year 1 - AS
Unit 1 - 60%
This unit is set by the Art department. Teachers guide students through a number of concepts and practical activities to aid the development of an independent final piece.
Unit 2 - 40%
An externally-set assignment set by Edexcel. Final practical exam of 8 hours is supported by a number of weeks preparation.
Year 2 - A2 Art
Unit 3 - 60%
Students develop their own idea, issue, concept or theme of their choosing, including both practical work and an essay of up to 3000 words;
Unit 4 - 40%
an externally- set assignment set by Edexcel. Final practical exam of 12 hours is supported by a number of weeks preparation.
- For School leavers – a minimum of 5 GCSEs to include GCSE Photography at GradeB or above
- GCSE English at grade B or above would be an advantage
- Special consideration may be given for those with a suitable art portfolio
- An online test for non-Greenford students will be required to be completed and posted to the Head of Art.
Over 70% of our Art students go on to study Art & Design at a higher level, we aim to support photography students in the same way. Subject to teachers' recommendations and a portfolio interview, this course guarantees the offer of a place on the College's post A Level Foundation course in Art & Design. This course is a great platform for a variety of courses that lead to jobs in the Arts, one of the most lucrative industries in the country.
