Vehicle Maintenance Level 1 IMI Diploma at Harrogate College
This course supports related NVQs in motor vehicles and is an ideal starting point for anyone seeking employment in the motor industry.
Students learn basic motor vehicle repair operations.
Units of study include:
Health & Safety Practices and Tools/Equipment
Operation of Spark and Compression Ignition Engines
Components and Operations of Various Engine Systems (Coolant, Lubrication, Ignition and Fuel)
Maintenance and Operation of Chassis Systems (Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Suspension)
Electrical Foundation Skills
Other Vocational Optional Units and Personal Social Development Skills Units.
Students will also study the NCFE Level 1 Award in Welding.
Applicants are assessed on an individual basis, taking into account existing academic or vocational qualifications and experience. An interest in the motor industry is required.
The natural progression route is to the IMI Level 2 Technical Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship schemes are available on a College day release basis for those who find employment.
