Course content

AS Level Sculpture is offered to students who are intending to apply to an Art Foundation or art-related degree course after their A Levels, particularly in architecture or product design. It is an excellent opportunity to gain new skills, explore new themes and ideas, and to expand a portfolio of work in preparation for interview. The course explores form and space through a range of processes and materials. The results of this exploration could be in the form of purely decorative work, or they may have some element of function. Either way, the aim is to produce exciting, unusual, original and challenging sculptural forms in ceramics, wood, metal and plastics. Off-site trips specific to sculpture sites and 3D design museums are also offered. Assessment is based on coursework and an exam. Commitment, enthusiasm and organisation – as well as creativity – will be important qualities to maintain throughout the year.
