Economics AS & A level at Brentside High School

Course description

This course is designed to allow you to develop an understanding of economics by examining current economic issues, problems and institutions that effect everyday life. Your work will focus on developing your knowledge and skills to explain and evaluate the important factors involved within an economy. You will be learning about the working of individual product markets, the reasons why markets fail, the theory of market structure and the working of national economies. There is a focus on decision making and how government can improve the outcomes in individual markets and for the whole economy. 

Entry requirements

Grade B in GCSE English language and grade B in GCSE mathematics

Assessment

AS level is assessed by a two examination papers.

 

A level is assessed by three of examination papers.

Future opportunities

An A level in economics will enable you to follow a range of degree courses at university. Students enrol onto a number of economics related courses, such as marketing, finance, economics, European business and public relations. If you have studied economics, employers appreciate that you understand the environment in which a business is run. The skills and knowledge you will acquire on the course are well regarded by future employers.
