Creative Apprenticeships at Bridgwater College

Course description

This course is for individuals who are currently employed in the production/entertainment/cultural/ events management industry or who are able to gain employment in this sector. It is suitable for young men and women with various skills and an interest in the subject. You will need to enjoy working in a practical way and within a team. You will also need to be keen to be trained and assessed at work and supported by a variety of resources.

Course content

There are many aspects of Venue Operations, including:

  • Customer Service
  • Management Systems and Procedures
  • Time Management
  • Organising Events and Exhibitions
  • Financial Management.

A proportion of your study will centre upon the type of your employment and thus will vary from employer to employer.

Entry requirements

You should be educated to GCSE level and you will need to complete an initial assessment either at College or in the workplace. This assessment will help us guide you to the most appropriate programme to meet your needs.


You are assessed on your knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis and you will obtain evidence that you can meet the required standards throughout your training. There will be tests for some of the additional qualifications, such as the Technical Certificate. You may also have to take exams in Key Skills.

You will be appointed an Assessor who will visit you in the workplace and assess your progress. Some of these visits will provide you with evidence that you can use towards our qualification. One day a week you will work on your College course work gaining the underpinning knowledge required. You will also be provided with a Training Officer who will oversee your training at work and during your College training sessions. Your Training Officer will visit you at least once every three months to review your progress and help you with any problems you might have. You will also have access to subject specialists, based at Bridgwater College, via our virtual learning environment.

You will be allocated a mentor in your workplace who will support you and aid your assessment.


Future opportunities

Upon completion of the course you will be equipped with the required skills to work in a wide range of venues. You will have also have developed a strong set of transferable skills, which can be applied in jobs in any sector. Some employers may also decide to continue your employment into a full-time contract.
