Course Content

 

French AS Level:

  • The changing nature of the family.
  • Cyber-society.
  • The place of voluntary work.
  • A culture proud of its heritage.
  • Contemporary francophone music.
  • One text or film.

 

Spanish AS Level:

  • Modern and traditional values.
  • Cyberspace.
  • Equal rights.
  • Modern-day idols.
  • Spanish regional identity.
  • Cultural heritage or cultural landscape.
  • One text or film.

Entry requirements

At least a Grade B in the relevant language at GCSE.

Student Attributes

  • Good knowledge of how to form tenses.
  • Eye for detail.
  • Methodical approach to grammatical accuracy.
  • Excellent comprehension skills in reading and listening.
  • Ability to spot patterns.
  • Genuine desire to communicate in the target language in both writing and speaking.
  • Interest in different cultures and society

Assessment

Paper 1: Listening, Reading and Translation.

Paper 2: Writing exam on one text or one film.

Paper 3: Speaking exam.

Future opportunities

French and Spanish, taught in small classes, are facilitating subjects, highly rated by top universities and combine well with almost all subjects. Students will also have the possibility to study a foreign language at university, either as a stand-alone or as part of another course. Most universities offer a year abroad as part of other courses. Many past NTS students have progressed to Oxbridge and other top universities to study languages.
