A Level: Philosophy and Ethics at JC6: Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre

Course description

Philosophy and Ethics allows you to ask some of the big questions in life: Is there a God? How did the universe come about? What is right and wrong? Why does pain and suffering exist? Do miracles really happen? How to believers respond to some of the big philosophical and ethical issues of the day?

The course is challenging and will give you the opportunity to explore the views of philosophers and religious thinkers as well as your own interpretations. You will be able to look at ethical theories and at applied ethics, covering such topics as euthanasia, abortion, genetic engineering, environmental ethics, sex and relationships, war, peace and justice. You need to be prepared to question, think, criticise, analyse and take on board a wide range of ideas and opinions.
