Public Services Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate at Middlesbrough College

Course description

Students will be given the skills and knowledge which will equip them to go onto employment into the public services. It will also give them a wide range of subject knowledge which will enable them to progress onto the higher level 3 programme. The course is split into 3 parts; Outward bounds units, classroom based units and sport units.

Course content

Students will study the following units; Unit 1 The Role and Work of the Public Services Unit 2 Working Skills in the Public Service Sector Unit 6 Society, Citizenship and the Public Services Unit 7 Crime and its Effects on Society and Individuals Unit 16 Employability skills IN The Public Services Unit 3 Employment in the Public Services Unit 5 Health, Fitness and Lifestyle for the Public Services Unit 10 Adventurous Activities in the Public Services Unit 11 Sport and Recreation in the Public Services Unit 12 Land Navigation by Map and Compass

Entry requirements

4 x GCSE at grade D (Including English) good school report and behaviour. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."


Assessment methods are through the completion of written and practical assignments. There are also 2 written exams which are taken.
