Year 12

UNIT 1 - ENGLAND 1485-1558: THE EARLY TUDORS
 

  • British Period Studies: England 1485-1547
    The government of Henry VII and threats to his rule, Henry VII’s foreign policy, Henry VIII and Wolsey and The reign of Henry VIII after 1529 

 

  • Enquiry Topic: Mid Tudor Crises 1547-1558
    The stability of the monarchy, Religious changes and Rebellion and unrest

UNIT 2 – THE COLD WAR IN ASIA 1945-1993
 

  • Western Policies in Post War Asia 1945-1979
    The Korean War 1950-1953 and its impact to 1977, Indochina 1945-1967 and Wars in Vietnam and Cambodia 1968-1993.

Year 13

UNIT 3 – CIVIL RIGHTS IN THE USA 1865-1992

  • Thematic Study: Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992
    African Americans, Trade Unions and Labour Rights, Native American Indians and Women
  • Depth Studies
    Civil Rights in the ‘Gilded Age’ c.1875-c.1895, The New Deal and civil rights, Malcolm X and Black Power

UNIT 4 – COURSEWORK

  • 3000-4000 Word Essay
    A topic of your choice produced after an independent study/enquiry (from a selection of options provided by your teacher)

Entry requirements

GCSE History Grade B or

GCSE English Language and Literature Grade B if History was not studied

Assessment

There will be three examinations in total and 1 piece of coursework

For students only opting for AS they will study only the first 2 units and sit the 2 exams at the end of Year 12.

For A level students all 3 will be sat in the summer of Year 13 and coursework will be written and submitted in the same period.

Maximum group size = 25

Future opportunities
