Course description

AS Unit 1 Biology and Disease.

Unit 2 The Variety of Living Organisms.

Unit 3 Investigative and Practical Skills in AS Biology.

A2 Unit 4 Populations and Environment.

Unit 5 Control in Cells and in Organisms.

Unit 6 Investigative and Practical Skills in A2 Biology.In unit 1 students study the effect on the body’s systems and cells, of disease and how the immune system responds. In Unit 2 students gain an understanding how genetics links to an understanding of biological diversity and physiological systems. Finally students undertake an investigative skills assignment in unit 3.

Unit 4 involves students looking at ecosystemsand how humans impact upon them. The unit 5 topic is control in cells and in organisms: gaining an understanding of howorganisms function and are controlled at a cellular level. The final unit is an investigative skills assignment.

Entry requirements

If you achieve at least 5 C grades or above or the equivalent youcould consider Advanced Level courses.However, for the majority of Level 3 subjects B grades at GCSEare required. Specific grade requrements for subjects are available from staff and will be discussed at interview .
