Drama A2 Level at The Astley Cooper School

Course description

This course provides you with the opportunity to explore Drama from the viewpoint of a writer, performer and director, understanding how modern theatre has been influenced by the development of the drama form over time. It allows you to learn challenging theories and ideas in a practical and active way. How is the course examined or assessed? The course is examined through a combination of practical and portfolio work. For A2 level there are two units: Unit 3: Practical devising workshops and accompanying notes (internally assessed and externally moderated coursework) – 60 marks Unit 4: Externally examined written examination (2½ hours) – 80 marks Additional Information This course is ideal for students who are interested in the process, development and performance of live theatre.

Future opportunities

This AS/A2 course will provide you with the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to pursue a Drama or Performing Arts course at a higher level (college/university/drama school). The course also helps develop a number of core skills that are useful in many careers especially those that involve meeting and dealing with people, speaking in public, working as part of a team and solving problems. Many drama students progress to careers in the creative industries such as advertising, marketing, arts management, theatre, teaching etc.You will follow this course with two or three other As/A2 levels or an Advanced Diploma and, additionally, the compulsory core such as PSHE, RE, PE/Games.
