Course content

Studying German at New Mills will involve deepening your understanding of the way German works, so that you can read books and watch films in German. Gaining a better understanding of grammar is key to your success in this subject and we study a range of different types of texts to increase vocabulary in preparation for the exams at the end of the course. You can expect to talk about yourself, express opinions about topical contentious issues, to write essays, to translate, to answer questions based on what you have heard or read and to become a more fluent and competent speaker of German.

Being taught in small groups allows your teachers to focus on you as individuals, concentrating their teaching on areas where your learning needs to be deepened or enhanced. Such a student-centred approach towards your studies proves very popular with the students of this subject and German at New Mills Sixth Form scores well above national averages in student satisfaction surveys. The four core skills of learning a language: speaking, writing, listening and responding and reading and responding are all covered during the duration of your studies and the positive and encouraging staff in the department are always on hand to provide you with extra assistance to help you become the success that you deserve to be.
