Bricklaying Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship at New College Durham

Course description

This course requires day release attendance at College.  You will be employed and working as an Apprentice Bricklayer.  You will gain evidence from your place of work which will go towards the achievement of your Apprenticeship.

Course content

Your Apprenticeship Framework is made up of various components which include: • 

  • NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Trowel Occupations - this is achieved through a portfolio of evidence gained from carrying out your day to day activities in the workplace.  You will be supported by a College Assessor who will help you gather this evidence and work with you to produce the portfolio. • 
  • Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying Technical Certificate - this is the qualification you will complete by attending College on a day release basis.  The content will provide you with the practical training and theory you need to carry out your job at work. • 
  • Functional Skills - you may need to complete functional skills qualification in Maths and English. However, depending upon your GCSE Grades this may not be necessary. • 
  • Employee rights and responsibilities.
  • Personal learning and thinking skills.

While attending College you will also complete other aspects of the Apprenticeship Framework. The Level 2 Apprenticeship normally lasts two years, but an exact course duration will be agreed with you at the beginning of the programme. You will be required to provide a portfolio, which will include evidence of written projects and assessments.  Evidence from your workplace may include photographs of your work and/or signed testimonies from your employer or supervisor. 

Entry requirements

There are no academic requirements for this programme but you do need to be working to take the qualification. You also need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

Future opportunities

Bricklayers and masons erect and repair structures of stone, brick and similar materials and cut, shape and polish granite, marble, slate and other stone for building, ornamental and other purposes.
