Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship (Heavy) at Northampton College
There is a high demand for skilled qualified technicians. This qualification covers activities relating to service technicians in the majority of garages, maintenance depots and dealers. The candidate can choose whether to work with light vehicles or heavy vehicles (Cars or Lorries). The Apprentice will complete the following: - QCF Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 2 - Certificate in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 2 - Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths, English and Information Technology - Employee Rights and Responsibilities - Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. The programme is broken down into eight units and all candidates must cover the following units: - Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety - Maintain positive working relationships - Carry out routine vehicle servicing - Remove and refit engine units and components - Remove and refit electrical auxiliary units and components - Remove and refit vehicle chasses units and components.
The candidate must be employed for approximately 30 hours per week within the motor vehicle industry.
You must be in relevant employment to start an Apprenticeship and pass an assessment in English and Maths.
Evidence is collected in a portfolio and will include workplace observations, professional discussions, witness testimonies, oral and written questions, online assessment and other evidence as appropriate to the job. Candidates will have a dedicated assessor to guide and support them through the process. Functional skills are assessed through examinations.
Average duration is 30 months. The training is delivered in the workplace and at Northampton College. Apprentices will have to attend college for six one week block periods per year, a total of 30 days per year.
