Sport BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at NPL Football Academy (Newcastle Town FC)

Course description

If you want to pursue a career in coaching, teaching or sports therapy or are planning to progress on to a higher education sports-related course, this course is ideal for you. You will gain an in-depth understanding of sports development, coaching and fitness and will have the opportunity to obtain additional complementary first aid, coaching and sports leaders qualifications.

Course content

You will study:
- Sports development
- Sports coaching
- Psychology for sports performance
- Profiling sports performance
- Principles of anatomy and physiology
- The physiology of fitness
- Practical team sport
- Rules, regulations and officiating
- Sports nutrition
- Sport as a business
- Assessing risk in sport
- Sports injuries
- Leadership in sport and analysis of sports performance

You will also complete an additional five specialist units to gain the full qualification.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade A-C, including Maths and English, or a BTEC First Diploma (or equivalent) with a Merit grade.

Assessment

You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including assignments and practical activities.

Future opportunities

On completion of the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport you can progress onto a sports related degree or another appropriate higher education course. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.

This course can lead to work in a leisure centre or a gym, or in sports coaching and teaching. In addition, it could provide entry into business and management within the leisure industry. Specialist careers advice will be available from our Advice and Guidance Team throughout your course.

    • Newcastle Town from Staffordshire were formed in 1948 and spent the first 44 years of their existence competing locally in the Derby and District Senior League. In 1993, they joined the Central Midlands Football League Premier Division, gaining promotion to the Supreme Division two years later. They moved up to Northern Counties East League Division One in 1999, and in the 2000-2001 season reached the 4th round of the FA Vase. Their most recent promotion, to the Northern Premier League, occurred at the end of the 2008-2009 season.
