A Level: Sociology at JC6: Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre
Sociology is the study of society and human interaction. You will explore a variety of current issues in society such as health and the purpose and role of the education system, as well as finding out about sociological research and the methods that sociologists use to carry it out.
The course encourages you to develop a strong understanding of contemporary issues such as criminology, world rejecting cults and religion.
Consider Sociology if:
- You enjoy thinking analytically and critically.
- You're open to considering a wide range of viewpoints.
- You like learning through group work and activities.
JC6 general entry requirements, including:
- GCSE English at Grade 5 or above.
End of year examinations.
Sociology combines well with a range of humanities, arts and social science courses which encourage your ability to discuss and communicate ideas, such as English, History, Law, Health & Social Care and Philosophy & Ethics.
It is a good choice for a wide range of career and university routes because of the widely recognised skills students develop: critical thinking skills, research skills and a sound understanding of the society we live in.
