English Literature A Level at Dartford Grammar School for Girls

Course description

English Literature (AQA)

Over the course of the A level, you will study a range of texts, covering drama, poetry and prose, from different eras. You will explore the work of a range of writers, including Shakespeare. Themes for study, set by the examination board, will be taken from the following options. 'Love through the Ages' and 'Modern Times: Literature from 1945 to the Present Day'.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in English Literature.

Assessment

Paper 1: 3 hours written paper (worth 40% of the A Level)

Paper 2: 2 hours 30 minutes written paper (worth 40% of the A Level)

NEA (Coursework): 1 comparative essay (worth 20% of the A Level)

Future opportunities

English Literature, all Arts and Humanities, Law, support  for other disciplines.

A very wide range, including teaching, law, publishing and journalism.  English is a desirable qualification for most careers as it develops key skills of communication and analysis.
