Business BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate at The Mandeville School
This course is for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the business sector. The qualification is equivalent to 2 A Levels, and it has been designed as a full 2-year programme, normally taken alongside a further Level 3 qualification.
Within the internally assessed aspect of this course, students will explore the features of different businesses and analyse what makes them successful. They will examine business markets, how businesses are organised, the environments in which these businesses operate and will investigate the role and contribution of innovation and enterprise to business success. Beyond this, students will explore aspects of the English legal system, looking at how laws are made and how they are applied in the courts.
Within the externally assessed aspect of this course, students will explore areas including personal and business finance and how businesses develop strong marketing campaigns.
Students who have studied BTEC Business at Key Stage 4 (Level 2) are required to have achieved a minimum of a Merit in order to display the necessary skills to access this course at Level 3. Students who have not studied Business at Key Stage 4 will not be at a disadvantage, as each unit will be taught from the beginning, with no expectation of prior knowledge. However, such students will need to have achieved at least a Merit in other BTEC courses they have studied or equivalent B Grades at GCSE.

- 2 x externally assessed units consisting of: a:1 x 3 hour timed assessment carried out in the classroom under exam conditions b:1 x 2 hour written examination set by the exam board
