Health & Social Care Level 2 at Warrington & Vale Royal College

Course description

If you are interested in a career in health care such as nursing or social care such as becoming a social worker. You must be interested in working with  various types of people, across all age ranges who might have disabilities or disorders that require care and support from others.

Course content

Units include equality & diversity, communication, human growth & development and safeguarding.

Entry requirements

You will need at least 4 Ds (Grade 3) at GCSE. You will be required to attend maths and English sessions if you did not achieve these qualifications to Grade C (4/5).


Assessment is through the completion of coursework attached to 7 units across the year. You may have more than one piece of coursework to complete for each unit and you will be expected to be working on this throughout the year both in college and at home.

Financial information

You will be required to complete a DBS check before starting your placement which is £44.

Non-educational trips often require a small fee to cover costs of coaches and admission fees.

Future opportunities

You can choose to enrol onto the Level 3 Health and Social Care which could further lead to higher education.

Will I complete work placements?

You will complete a block placement of one week in a health & social care setting of your choice including a nursery, school or care home. You are expected to approach potential placements yourself to organise this.

Are trips and residentials organised during the course?

Trips on the course include the Slavery Museum at Liverpool Albert Docks, Thackray Medical Museum and occasional reward trips to the cinema or theme park at the end of the year.

Are there any links with industry?

This course is intended to prepare you for healthcare or social care industries, although to become a professional in these areas, further study is required.

    • By Rail: Anyone travelling by train should disembark at Central Station in Warrington. Our Winwick Road Campus is around a 20 minute walk along the A49 (you will pass the Warrington Wolves RLFC stadium and the Tesco supermarket on your left).

      By Bus: Warrington & Vale Royal College is easily accessible by bus from the town centre and nearby Cheshire districts. Bus numbers* 19, 20, 21, 22 from the Warrington Bus Station to Winwick Road Campus.
