Vehicle Refinishing Level 1 at Northampton College

Course description

This course is designed to prepare you for employment in the vehicle body repair and/or refinishing industry. The course is taught in our well equipped workshops and classrooms, it will involve completion of theoretical study using classroom delivery, assignments, phase tests and on-line multi-choice exams.The practical sessions require you to satisfy practical assessment criteria using pre-set tasks with the results recorded in an electronically based practical task workbook.The units you will study include:- Body repair processes- Body refinishing processes involving preparation- Paint application and polishing techniques- Body component removal and replacement- Welding and joiningYou will also study qualifications in Functional Skills and Employability andSocial Development.

Course content

The course is aimed at those who wish to gain the technical certificate anddevelop their practical skills to enable them to work in the motor vehicleindustry.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade A*-E including English Language and Maths or an Entry Level 3 related qualification subject plus Functional Skills English and Maths at Entry Level 3

Assessment

There is continuous assessment of practical work throughout the course and end of unit on-line multi-choice examinations.In year 1 there are 2 unit phase tests via short answer written papers. Students will also need to produce a portfolio of evidence in the form of a folder of assessed college work gained over the year.

Future opportunities

After successful completion of this course you can gain employment in areassuch as vehicle repair and refinishing workshops or accident repair workshops.You may also return to study on Vehicle Body Block Release courses onceyou have gained employment in the motor vehicle body repair or refinishingindustry.

Further information

At your interview you will be provided with a preferred Kit List that will assist you during your course. This kit will always belong to you and is fully transferable to take with you in to employment.
