Media : Level 2 at Gateway College

Course description

This course gives you an introduction to the techniques you need for successful film and print production work in the Media. You will develop technical skills and knowledge using Adobe Premiere, Photoshop and In-Design and develop your team working abilities as you work together on video shoots. You will use your skills to create assessed Media products, such radio dramas, short films, TV adverts, DVD covers, posters and short factual films. The course is assessed by coursework, which may be exhibited at the end of year show. You will also research a Hollywood production company of your choice, for example Marvel, DC Films or Disney and the films they make such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Batman v Superman, Finding Dory and The Avengers.

This qualification is equivalent to 3 GCSEs.

Course content

For your final project on this course, you are able to choose any media production you wish. Many students use this as an opportunity to create products that will be personally useful. Many past students have used the final major project as a chance to create videos for their own bands or music projects. Some have made online advertisements for businesses belonging to family and friends.  

 

 

 

Entry requirements

GCSEs at grade D and E (3/4), or Pass in a Level 1 Vocational Programme, including English Language and Maths grade 3 or Functional Skills Level 1.

12. Print Media Skills 

11. Audio Skills

Future opportunities

You can progress on to a range of BTEC Level 3 courses including TV Film, Print Media, Games Development and Animation or AS Media Studies. These can lead to an Apprenticeship or University and a career in the Creative Media sector.
