Dance (Performing Arts) Extended Diploma Level 3 at West Lancashire College
The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) is designed to develop your personal dance skills to university entry standard.
Students will also undertake Functional Skills qualifications (at an appropriate Level).
This course if for anyone who wishes to gain a vocational qualification in dance as a step towards a career in the industry or a university application. It is ideal if you are straight from school or are a mature student with relevant qualifications or experience.

Throughout this course you will experience different dance styles including tap, jazz, contemporary and ballet as well as developing skills in choreography and dance improvisation. You will take part in several performances throughout the year to paying audiences which integrate the units and provide a vocationally relevant experience. There is also an academic element to the course which involves researching, contextual studies and business.
Learners will undertake a period of work experience appropriate to your course as part of the programme of study.
Maths and English will be part of your programme of study and you will study qualifications in Maths and English, appropriate to your level of ability, alongside your chosen course.
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English, previous experience of dance in essential. All applicants must also attend an audition where they will attend college for a full day of workshops. Applicants will also need to prepare a
solo piece of their choice.
All learners are expected to wear suitable clothing which will include a West Lancashire College Performing Arts department hoodie (you will be given instructions on how to purchase this) plus black jogging pants / jazz pants / tracksuit bottoms. Learners will also require suitable footwear (jazz shoes) and will require tap shoes, ballet shoes and leotard.
West Lancashire College will also accept credits previously gained through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
All units are assessed and graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
This course is geared towards leaners progressing onto HE courses and eventually to a career in the Performing Arts industry. These include: dancer, teacher or working in the entertainment industry. Many Learners will progress to university studying various aspects of Dance and Peroformance.
