The course is equal to 3 A levels and provides an excellent preparation for entry to drama school or university. You will have the opportunity to perform in many productions and will be taught by experienced staff with excellent academic qualifications and industry experience.
If you are a keen actor and interested in a career in theatre, television and film, this course will enable you to develop your skills and progress to drama school or Higher Education. We structure the delivery of the course in much the same way as a drama school does, therefore assessments are always of a very practical nature and provide an excellent training compared to most other colleges.
Over two years you will study 18 units which will include:
• TV and Film Acting
• Principals of Acting
• Acting Auditions
• Acting Styles
• Performance Workshop
• Historical Context
• The Performing Arts Business
You need 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above (preferably including English Language and Maths) or BTEC First Diploma (with a Merit grade) in a related subject. If you do not have a grade C or better in either English or Maths then you will have to continue to study them alongside your main course.
Mainly through continuous assessment of course work, including practical and written assignments which are internally assessed. There will be some externally assessed units.
We regularly take trips to see shows both locally and in the West End. Every year, the department offers a study trip to New York to experience theatre on Broadway!
Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.
The National Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is accepted by universities for those that wish to progress onto degree courses. The practical skills you gain on this course will give you the best possible chance of securing a place at drama school, which is where most professional actors go to train.
