IT BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Oldershaw Academy

Course description

The BTEC qualifications in this specification have been developed in the IT sector to; give full time learners the opportunity to enter employment in the IT sector or to progress their study to other vocational qualifications; and give learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

Course content

The 60 credit BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma extends the specialist work-related focus of the BTEC Level 3 certificate and covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the appropriate vocational sector. The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma offers greater flexibility and a choice of emphasis through the optional units. It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A-Level.

The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in IT is a 60 credit and 360 guided learning hour (GLH) qualification that consists of 6 units: Communication and Employability Skills for IT; Computer Systems; Website Production; Digital Graphics; Computer Animation and Spreadsheet Modelling.

Entry requirements

Grade C or above in GCSE ICT (alternatively, an overall grade of Merit in other Level 2 ICT qualifications, (such as OCR Nationals or BTEC).  Grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics.

Future opportunities

Students who successfully complete the qualification may wish to extend their programme through the study of general qualifications such as GCE AS Levels, additional specialist learning (for example through another BTEC qualification) or a complementary NVQ.
