Horticulture Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship at Wiltshire College

Course description

An apprenticeship in Horticulture is not just about flowers and long hours outside. This apprenticeship offers a huge range of opportunities for those working in Production Horticulture,Garden Centres, Landscaping, Amenity Horticulture or from Private Estates and Councils.

Regardless of whether  you currently hold a wide range of responsibilities, or specialise in a more specific role, an apprenticeship can help you learn the skills you need to succeed, and gain the qualifications to prove your knowledge.

Course content

You will learn how to Identify and cultivate plants, operate small machinery including Ride on Mowers, Undertake practical's within the historical gardens of Lackham. Apprentices will be given training on preparing and maintaining vegetables, herbaceous perennials and annual planting stock.

Class time covers personal development, Math and English skills, Health and Safety in horticulture and current legislation for professional practice in the workplace.   

Entry requirements

Minimum Entry Level 3 or GCSE grade C in Maths and English. All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths and English. Employment within a horticultural business or private estate offering a scope of activities and supervisory training.


Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers, so they offer a structured programme that takes you through the skills you need to do a job well. Each apprenticeship involves a structured programme of training leading to a recognised qualification, and they are available at different levels, letting you choose the speed you wish to learn at.

Future opportunities

The Intermediate Apprenticeship is followed by an Advanced Diploma Apprenticeship in Horticulture.
