Physical Education and Sport - A Level at Northallerton College
Subject content - This qualification is linear so students will sit all their exams and submit all their non-exam assessment at the end of the course, which is 2 years. Some of the areas covered include Applied anatomy and physiology, Skill acquisition, Sport and society, Exercise physiology, Biomechanical movement , Sport psychology, Sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport.
Students should have a minimum of Grade B in GCSE PE (and at least a C in the exam) or science.
The subject is team-taught with teachers specialising in different areas of the syllabus. Students will experience a range of styles of delivery with some practical elements though the bulk is theoretical.
The course is complemented by psychology and the sciences. It offers progression to students wishing to study sport science, physiotherapy, teaching: coaching or careers in the forces.
