Apprenticeship in Automotive Light and Heavy Vehicle Body/Panel Repair

Course content

The Body Repairers craft involves repairing all kinds of damage to vehicle bodywork and trim, from minor bumps and water leaks up to a complete crash rebuild. As an apprentice you will learn to use special hand and machine tools and jigs. You will be become skilled in welding, brazing and soldering, metal cutting and forming, including 'panel beating'. You will also repair and replace body parts, smoothing and finishing ready for the perfect paint finish.




Entry requirements

Advanced Apprenticeship - GCSE Grades A-C in Maths, English, I.T and Science. A good Design & Realisation/CDT grade is desirable.


Apprenticeships - GCSE Grades D/E in Maths, English, I.T. and Science.




Advanced Apprenticeships and Apprenticeships in Vehicle Body Repair.

Off the job training in Body Repair carried out at City College, Tile Hill, Coventry and Warwickshire College, Leamington Spa (Level 2 only). Off the job training in Vehicle Refinishing at City College, Tile Hill, Coventry. All on day release.

Training to NVQ Levels 2/3, Technical Certificate Level 2/3 and Key Skills Level 1/2

For the practical element of the qualification (NVQ) you will be assessed in the workplace by an Assessor from the College.

For the theory element of the qualification (Technical Certificate and Key Skills), you will initially be screened at College to identify any areas that need development. Throughout each year you will have phase tests and at the end of each year will take an on line examination for the Technical Certificate. If you are not exempt from the Key Skills you will need to complete assignments and on line line tests during the first 18 months of your training programme.

Some companies will send employees on Paint and Body courses to update skills and knowledge.
