Further Mathematics AS & A Level at Bridgewater High School

Course description

Further Pure is an extension of the algebraic topics taught in Pure Maths at A Level as well as an introduction to new topics such as complex numbers and polor coordinates. 

Further Options include Statistics, Mechanics and Decision Maths. Statistics and Mechanics build on the content taught in A Level Maths and Decision Maths include topics such as algorithms, linear programming and critical path analysis and has close links with Business Studies and Computer Studies.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s at A* - C including a minimum of a grade A in GCSE Mathematics. Students must also be studying AS Mathematics to enrol on AS Further Mathematics.


In Year 12 you will take 2 exams to complete AS Further Maths. The two papers are equally weighted and last 1.5 hours each. 

In Year 13 you will take 4 equally weighted exams each 1.5 hours long. 

A calculator may be used for all papers. Students must complete all assessment in May/June in any single year. 

Future opportunities

Further Maths is a very challenging A Level and will set you apart from A Level Mathematicians. Further Maths is a requirement to study Maths or Maths-related subjects at some top universities.
