A Level French at Selby College

Course description

The course aims to build on the knowledge acquired at GCSE and will help you further develop your language skills, as well as encouraging an awareness of the cultural differences between Britain and French-speaking countries. The course is suitable for anyone with a keen interest in speaking, reading, writing and listening to French and who is interested in learning about French grammar.

Course content

In Year 1 you will study aspects of French-speaking society and artistic culture; for example, the changing nature of family, cyber-society, the place of voluntary work, heritage, culture and tourism, French music and cinema. In Year 2 you will study aspects of French-speaking society and political life; for example, multicultural society, the marginalised, crime and punishment, young people and politics, demonstrations, strikes and immigration. You will also study a film and a book.

Entry requirements

Standard A Level entry requirements apply. For this course you will also need a Grade 6 or above in GCSE French.

Assessment

100% Exam.

Future opportunities

On successful completion, you may go on to university to study courses in languages or those with a European or international dimension, or combine a language with other subjects such as Business Studies, Law or Sciences.
