Classical Civilisation A level at St Dominic's Sixth Form College

Course description

Classical Civilisation is a diverse and demanding discipline that affords students the opportunity to think, debate and formulate ideas on complex issues that have perplexed man throughout the ages. Students learn many useful skills, such as how to evaluate, analyse, research and write essays, all of which serve as excellent preparation for a wide variety of higher education courses or the world of work. 

Course content

A level Classical Civilisation (AQA linear)

  • AS Unit 1: Greek Architecture and Sculpture
  • AS Unit 2: Homer’s: Odyssey
  • A2Unit 3:  Greek Tragedy
  • A2 Unit 4: Virgil’s Aeneid

Entry requirements

7 GCSEs at C or above, including Englsh Language

Future opportunities

The success rate is excellent and every year a considerable number of students go on to study related degree courses.
