Chemistry AS level at The Dukeries Academy

Course description

Everything in the world is made up of chemicals that can be studied. Chemistry involves looking for patterns in chemical behaviour and explaining why things react the way that they do, as well as predicting what will happen.

Course content

Units:

  • Physical Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry

Entry requirements

B grade in both GCSE Core and Additional science’ or achieved B grades in 2 of the Triple Science exams, including Chemistry at higher level KS4. 5 A*-C grades at GCSE (including English and Maths).

Assessment

There is no coursework on this course. However, your performance during practicals will be assessed.

Future opportunities

The work of the Chemist is very wide- doing research and developing new products in industries such as oil, chemicals, medicines, manufacturing and transport, in the public sector dealing with food and hygiene, the health service and teaching. The list is endless.
