General Engineering:Level 2 at Suffolk New College

Course description

The study programme is mainly practical based and you will learn in our modern engineering workshop. Develop by learning skills and interacting with local employers, who will share their knowledge and experience with you. You will also attend various exhibitions, such as the Duxford Engineering Technology Skills Exhibition.

The study programme will also develop your personal, social and employability skills, which includes opportunities to work on community projects and to explore the various career pathways within the engineering industry.

Course content

This study programme gives you a broad knowledge and understanding of general engineering techniques used within the engineering sector. Carrying out practical activities in a realistic workshop environment, you will learn a range of intermediate fitting, sheet-metal work and machine skills. Classroom based theoretical units are delivered by highly qualified and experienced lecturers, who support you in learning to work safely, effectively and to make efficient use of resources and materials. You must pass all practical and theory elements of the programme to achieve this nationally recognised qualification.

All students who have not achieved a grade C or above in GCSE English or Maths or both will need to study an English or/and Maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification

Entry requirements

Level 1 Performing Engineering Operations, or a profile of GCSEs at a grade D or above, including Maths and English

Tuition Costs (Subject to confirmation)

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2016 For all students aged 19+ fees are £1800 + exam fee. Details regarding fee remission please contact our Support Team on 01473 382738.

Future opportunities

On completion of the course, successful students will have a qualification allowing them to progress directly onto an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering
