Graphic Communications A-level ELL at Invictus Sixth Form
The course allows students to experience a wide variety of media, techniques and processes. Students will be asked to demonstrate independence, and through direct observation and personal experience, explore all aspects of the medium of Graphic Design and Illustration. They will be encouraged to develop an awareness of their own culture and that of others. They will be given opportunities to research all aspects of design and develop their own personal response to design briefs in order to further their knowledge and understanding. Students will be expected to make critical judgements of their own, and other work and develop an appreciation of art and design. Enthusiasm, the ability to organise time and an ambition to improve design skills through in-depth study are additional requirements of candidates.

• Layout design
• Editorial design
• Experimental imagery
• Abstract approaches to design
Specific entry requirements: Grade B at GCSE in a Design and Technology subject
This is a 2 year course.
Unit 1 • Personal investigation (60% of total A level)
• A portfolio of practical work • A related written study (minimum 1000 words) Unit 2 • Externally set tasks (40% of total A level)
• Externally set examination question paper • Exam duration 15 hours (6 weeks preparation)
