Art & Design (Fine Art) A Level at Tyne Metropolitan College

Course description

If you have an eye for detail and a passion for all things creative then this is the course for you.

From shading to enhancing and honing technical skills, you will become equipped with advanced artistic qualities across many art formats. Students create a portfolio of art pieces across areas such as drawing, painting, mixed-media, sculpture, land art and printmaking.

You will study key artists as well as developing your individual style and become familiar with explaining the inspiration and motivation behind your work.

Course content

AS - You will use a wide range of drawing, painting and printing techniques.

A2 - You will produce a written and illustrated personal investigation on a Fine Art related topic of your choice.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs Grade A* to C plus a portfolio of work.

Assessment

AS - Unit 1: Coursework. Unit 2: Externally set examination, ending with an eight hour exam split over two weeks to complete a final piece.

A Level - Unit 3: Coursework, practical work and a written study.Unit 4: Externally set examination ending with a 12 hour exam split over two weeks to complete a final piece.

Future opportunities

HND in Fine Art, Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, Foundation Degree in Fine Art or Art-related Degree.

Careers include: Marketing, Architecture, Graphic Design, Product Design, Design Engineering and Interior Design.
