Business Studies Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate at Ashfield School

Course description

Business Studies is the study of how businesses operate, produce, market, employ, finance and deal with external influences all of which will be studied in a vocational context.

Course content

Units studies in first year:

Unit 1 – Exploring Business

Unit 2 – Developing a Marketing Campaign

Units studied in the second year:

Unit 3 –Personal and Business Finance

Unit 8 – Recruitment and Selection Process.

Entry requirements

5 or more GCSE’s at A* - C Including a C grade minimum in Maths and English Language.


Three units are assessed through assignments, the marketing campaign is assessed externally and the other 2 assignments are assessed internally. The Personal and Business Finance unit is assessed via an exam which is assessed externally.

Future opportunities

Many students use this course in combination with other level 3 courses to gain access to university. Qualifications in Business Studies lead to employment in Marketing, Human Resources, Management, Retail, Leisure, Insurance and Banking. This subject compliments Accounting, Maths, Science, Humanities and Law. It is a very popular degree choice.
