Further Mathematics A-Level at Oakgrove School

Course description

In Year 12, students will study 3 units, each of which has an equal weighting. In Year 13, students will study a further 3 units, each of which has an equal weighting.

Course content

In Year 12, students will study Further Pure 1, Statistics 2 and Decision 1.

  • Further Pure 1 develops the Maths that students learn in the Core modules.
  • Statistics 2 builds on elements studies in Statistics 1 (which students study as part of their Mathematics AS level).
  • Decision 1 develops skills required for operational research; this type of Maths is often used in business situations and computer programming.
  • Students will sit all modules in the Summer exam series. Each exam is a calculator paper.

In Year 13, students will study a further 3 units, each of which has an equal weighting.

  • Students will study Further Pure 2, Decision 2 and Mechanics 2. Each of these modules will develop skills from the AS Level.
  • Students will sit all modules in the Summer exam series. Each exam is a calculator paper.

Assessment

Students will sit three exams at the end of year 12 as follows:

  • Further Pure 1 (MFP1)
  • Decision 1 (MD01)
  • Statistics 2 (MS/SS2B)

Each exam is worth a third of the AS Grade. Each exam is 90 minutes long and consists of approximately 8 compulsory questions. Graphical calculators are allowed in these exams.

Students will sit three exams at the end of year 13 as follows:

  • Further Pure 2 (MFP2)
  • Decision 2 (MD02)
  • Mechanics 2 (MM2B)
