Hospitality BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Lincoln Castle Academy

Course description

With this course, you can learn skills needed for employment within the hospitality sector, such as customer service, interpersonal, supervisory, finance and employability skills. These abilities will help to ensure you find employment in your preferred field of work. Alternatively it is possible for you to progress into further education. The course is designed to be flexible so that it reflects individual interests and career aspirations. By choosing a specific specialist unit you can focus on an area that you wish to succeed in, such as catering, marketing and business or large scale events. Please note that the units studied may vary.

Candidates who follow the BTEC Level 3 in Hospitality will develop their skills in food preparation and food handling as well as customer service; interpersonal skills; supervisory skills; finance; and employability skills. Students will spend a considerable number of hours on practical work. Hospitality compliments the following subjects: Science, Business Studies, Public Services and Design and Technology.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for the BTEC Level 3 in Hospitality are a grade ‘C’ or above in GCSE Food Technology or GCSE Food and Nutrition. Fundamentally you should have a broad education including four GCSEs (graded ‘C’ or above) and, in addition, the interest and potential to succeed in achieving the qualification. You should be able to work to deadlines and be self-motivated.

Future opportunities

Employment opportunities - With the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, you can progress straight into employment. If successful there are a variety of potential careers that you can explore, all of which will benefit from your studies, for example: Kitchen Assistant, Hotel Receptionist or Housekeeper. Further vocational and academic qualifications - The BTEC Level 3 in Hospitality has the equivalence of one GCE ‘AS/A’ Level, and it is possible for you to progress further into higher education, as successfully completed BTEC Level 3 qualifications are eligible for UCAS points for university applications.
