Music at Carlton le Willows Academy

Course description

The AQA AS and A2 music courses are a natural progression from GCSE Music, which was also set by the AQA board. It will appeal to students who enjoyed playing, composing and analysing music and have a reached a high standard of musicianship on their instrument or voice - at least grade 5.

Both AS and A2 have 3 units of work.

Unit 1: Influences on Music

Set works will include the 1st and 2nd movements of Beethoven’s First Symphony and one choice from:

 Choral Music in the Baroque Period

 Music Theatre: a study of the Musical from 1940 to 1980

 British Popular Music from 1960 to the present day.

Unit 2: Composing, Creating Musical Ideas

Unit 3: Performing, Interpreting Musical Ideas

A2 continues with performing, composing and analysis at its core. Students will be able to use and develop skills in Music Technology and will have many opportunities to perform.

Entry requirements

B grade in Music or grade 3 in Practical and Theory exam
