Fitness Professional Study Programme at New College Swindon

Course description

Are you a highly motivated individual who is looking to work as a Personal Trainer or as a Sports Massage Therapist?

This study programme will prepare you for employment in health clubs, private practices with amateur or professional athletes and sports performers. Lessons and research will increase understanding of lifestyle appraisal, planning and delivery of personal training in one-to-one and group settings as well as a holistic profile to prevent and manage injuries in sport and active leisure.

A fundamental part of the course will cover functional anatomy and physiology, advanced exercise programming techniques, nutrition, sports injuries and the rehabilitation to support the practical skills you will cover.

The qualifications entitle you to gain entry to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 3 and Sports Therapy Organisation (STO)

Course content

This qualification has a balance of theory and practical learning. Units include:

- Sports Massage & Sports Injuries

- Sports Rehabilitation

- Health and Fitness Testing

- Gym instructing

- Programming sessions for personal training clients

- Delivering sessions for personal training clients

- Functional Anatomy and Physiology

- Basic Taping and Strapping

- Nutrition for Physical Activity

The course is designed to ensure you develop the necessary practical skills to deliver effective treatments and full participation is essential.

Entry requirements

You must have passed the Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Level 2) to enroll on this qualification. A minimum of five GCSEs at grades A*-C, including, English, Science and preferably Math’s. BTEC Sports students on the Diploma programme will need a Distinction/Merit profile and those on the Extended Diploma programme will require a Distinction/ Merit/ Merit profile. Entry to the course is also subject to interview.
