Hospitality - Kitchen Services Level 2 Apprenticeship at Kent Training & Apprenticeships

Course description

This Apprenticeship will help you develop skills and knowledge to provide a professional and effective supporting role in a hospitality environment, where kitchen service skills are a main requirement, e.g. hotel kitchen, restaurant.

As part of your Apprenticeship you will work with others and gain experience in a range of work functions.

It is aimed that by the end of your Apprenticeship you will be working with some autonomy and personal responsibility.

Course content

You will work towards the achievement of the NVQ (QCF) Level 2 Diploma in Kitchen Services. This will embed Personal Learning and Thinking Skills which will help you reflect on your learning and practice.

All Apprentices complete an e-portfolio to demonstrate competence and knowledge.

The following are some of the topics covered:

• Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment

• Contribute to effective teamwork

• Maintain food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food

Functional Skills at Level 1,  maths, English are a required component of the Apprenticeship, these are exam based and course work is delivered by a combination of remote assessment and one to one support.

Achievement of Employee Rights and Responsibilities knowledge will also be a requirement of the Apprenticeship. This ensures the understanding of aspects around employment and legislation, which relate to the work in this area.

This qualification will require you to stay on programme for 12 months.

Entry requirements

We require all prospective candidates to take an initial assessment of Literacy and Numeracy. You will be required to have an interview to ensure that the programme is the right one for you.


All Apprentices will have direct observation within the work place, by their assessor to enable them to collate evidence and show competency.

All Apprentices be expected to collect relevant evidence, complete multiple choice questions, obtain witness testimonies and information to provide evidence specific to the job role.

Financial information

The national minimum wage for apprentices is £2.73 per hour. Some employers will pay more and some will pay travel expenses.
