Mathematics AS at Warlingham School

Course description

Mathematics Pure core 1: Algebraic methods, co-ordinate geometry, differentiation and integration.Pure core 2: Sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and calculus. Pure core 2: Sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and calculus. Statistics: Probability, binomial and normaldistribution and estimation. Each module is assessed by a terminal examination. On Pure Core 1 the paper is completed without the aid of a calculator. All other modules require use of a graphics calculator. There are no course assignments on any part of the course.

Entry requirements

The course will suit a candidate who has followed the GCSE higher level course and has achieved a Grade A. Candidates achieving grade B at the higher level may be considered. The course is not suited to a student who has followed the intermediate tier at GCSE.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Mathematics, which could lead onto higher education in areas of Mathematics, related areas such as Engineering, Economics, Physics or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Mathematics such as an Accountant, Engineer, Financial Adviser or Teacher. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
