History at The Heath School
This specification gives candidates the opportunity to: • acquire knowledge and understanding of the human past; • investigate historical events, changes, people and issues; • develop understanding of how the past has been represented and interpreted; • use historical sources critically in their historical context; • organise and communicate knowledge and understanding of history; • draw conclusions and appreciate that these and other historical conclusions are liable to reassessment in the light of new or reinterpreted evidence; • develop an interest in and an enthusiasm for History, and to acquire a sound basis for further historical study.
The course will be assessed by the following criteria:Assessment Objective 1- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to recall, select, organise and deploy knowledge of the specification content to communicate it through description, analysis and explanation of: • the events, people, changes and issues studied; • the key features and characteristics of the periods, societies or situations studied. Assessment Objective 2- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to use historical sources critically in their context, by comprehending, analysing, evaluating and interpreting them. Assessment Objective 3- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to comprehend, analyse and evaluate, in relation to the historical context, how and why historical events, people, situations and changes have been interpreted and represented in different ways.
