Business A Level at La Retraite Roman Catholic Girls' School

Course description

This qualification will provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into Higher Education (HE) on a businessrelated programme such as Business, Business Management, Marketing, Business and Finance, Business and Economics and Accounting. It will also allow learners to choose non-business related degree programmes.

The qualification is designed to be taken as part of a study programme alongside other vocational qualifications, such as Cambridge Technicals in IT, Science for Technicians or Sport and Physical Activity subjects such as Economics, Maths, Geography, Computer Science, Sociology or Psychology.

Entry requirements

To gain entry onto the A Level Pathway students would need 5 or more B grades in their GCSE qualifications including a C grade in Maths and English Language. A Level students should chose 3 subjects and the ASDAN COPE Award.

Assessment

Assessment is 50% Internal and 50% External Assessment, with two units taken in Year 12 and another three units in Year 13.

Two Mandatory units studied in Year 12:
- Unit 1: The Business Environment (Externally assessed & Mandatory)
- Unit 4: Customers & Communication (Internally assessed & Mandatory)

One Mandatory unit studied in Year 13 and another two optional units:
- Unit 2: Working in Business (Externally assessed & Mandatory)
- Unit 5: Marketing and Market Research (Internally assessed & Optional)
- Unit 8: Introduction to Human Resources (Internally assessed & Optional)

Future opportunities

Relevant degrees include: Business, Business Administration, Business and Finance, Hospitality Management. Relevant careers include: finance, marketing, consultancy, sales, project management, logistics and entrepreneurship.

Students have the opportunity to meet leading figures from the world of business by attending conferences and other arranged trips. The Brokerage Programme offers a wide range of activities including Herbert Smith Networked, Allen & Overy Smartstart and the City of London Business Traineeship.
