Automotive Studies Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance Level 1 at Lowestoft College

Course description

This course covers the basic technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.

Course content

Some of the areas covered are:

  • Health and safety
  • Steering systems
  • Braking systems
  • Suspensions systems
  • Petrol engines
  • Cooling systems
  • Lubrication systems

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for Level 1 are four GCSEs at D grade or above (to include maths and English).

Assessment

There will be a variety of assessments throughout the course - the majority of these will be practical and there will be online assignments and two online exams. All IMI work will be completed on the IMI online ePortfolio system.

Future opportunities

The usual progression route from Level 1 is to go on to the Level 2 full-time course or a Level 2 Apprenticeship.
