Applied Science (Medical Science) BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Burnley College

Course description

This course aims to prepare learners for employment within the Science and or Medical sector. A range of specialist subjects are studied over the two years including: Forensic Psychology, Scientific Investigations, Statistics in Science and Applications of Forensic Psychology.

Practical assignments are fully supported by scientific theory which is required to understand analysis techniques. In the first year, modules include Fundamentals of Science, Working in the Science Industry, Scientific Practical Techniques, Perceptions of Science and Using Mathematical Tools in Science.

Students will work within the Science Hub to carry out practical investigations within a fully equipped Chemistry Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory and a Physics Laboratory and the areas of HSD including a large Active Learning Zone and 3D Smart Board Projector.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at Grade C or above including GCSE Science, GCSE Mathematics and English Language OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a Merit profile overall or above in a Science subject. Students may also be admitted with a Grade CC in GCSE Double Science or Grade C in GCSE Applied Science.

Assessment

This course is practically assessed via written reports, laboratory and field work and presentations. There are no external examinations.

Future opportunities

A university degree in a related subject such as: Nursing, Zoology, Biology, Marine Biology, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Radiography and Pharmacy. Subsequently, you can progress to a career within this field, such as a Laboratory Technician within the medical sector.
